Our Story

Consciousness is humanity's oldest question. We bring research, learning, and wisdom together to explore it — and discover what it could mean for humanity.

01

Where does the journey begin?

With the first question: What is consciousness?

It is one of humanity's oldest questions, yet one we are still far from answering. What is the nature of our experience? What does it mean to be human? And how might understanding consciousness change the way we live and shape our world?

At Meaning Quotient Institute (MQI), this question is our starting point. We see the journey of exploration itself as a source of discovery — one that can open new ways of understanding ourselves and reality.

03

What makes us different?

Multiple ways of knowing.

We bring science and Western philosophy into conversation with Eastern wisdom, indigenous perspectives, and contemplative traditions from across the world. We do not seek to protect a doctrine or impose a predetermined answer. We aim to understand different perspectives on their own terms, question assumptions,  and pursue inquiry with intellectual openness and rigour.

Through this, we also explore emerging questions around artificial intelligence, the nature of intelligence, and the possibilities — and challenges — of psychedelic research and therapy.

02

How do we explore it?

Through research, learning, and action.

Our work unfolds through three pillars. The Consciousness Research Lab explores fundamental questions and develops new understanding. The School of Consciousness Studies creates pathways for learning and deeper inquiry. Our collaborative projects bring ideas into the world, exploring how new understanding can inform the way we live, work and create together.

Each pillar strengthens the others, connecting the pursuit of knowledge with the possibility of meaningful change.

04

Who is part of this journey?

Explorers with an open mind.

We bring together researchers, philosophers, scientists, practitioners, learners, and changemakers across disciplines and cultures. We believe progress emerges when different perspectives meet — when ideas are challenged, experiences shared, and new connections discovered.

What began as an exploration bringing Deepak and James, with Indian and Western perspectives, into conversation grew into Meaning Quotient Institute — an open space for inquiry, research, and collaboratio. A learning community united not by a single worldview, but by a shared commitment to understanding.

05

What might it change?

A deeper understanding of consciousness could open new possibilities for humanity.

It could change how we understand ourselves, how we approach human development, how we create and govern intelligent technologies, and how we imagine our future together. It could also change how humanity engages with the natural world and non-human consciousness.

We do not claim to have the answers. We seek to create the conditions in which better questions can be asked, new understanding can emerge, and insight can become action.
